This workshop will act as a guide to understanding the issues facing marginalized young people in our society and strategies for educators to use to become successful in reaching this population. The theme of the workshop will be the identification of the seeds of discouragement and the necessary strategies for reclamation. Some of the topics to be covered include the power of relationship development, emotional intelligence, identifying and nurturing talents, developing self-esteem and resilience through mentoring and the art of creative problem solving. The voices of youth will be shared through the personal experiences of the workshop facilitator.
